About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Wind Turbine Commissioning Specialist to lead and execute commissioning activities for onshore wind projects under the certification and compliance framework of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring turbines are commissioned in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and regulatory standards unique to the Japanese market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute commissioning activities for wind turbines from mechanical completion to full handover.
  • Ensure compliance with METI requirements, including documentation, inspection processes, and regulatory reporting.
  • Perform functional testing, grid synchronization, and performance validation in collaboration with OEMs and EPC partners.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during commissioning phases.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and local stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Prepare and review commissioning documentation, punch lists, and completion reports.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards throughout all commissioning activities.
  • Provide training and technical support to local teams as needed.
  • Participate in project meetings, technical reviews, and audits related to commissioning and METI compliance.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience commissioning wind turbines, preferably from major OEMs (e.g., Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE, etc.).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working on METI-certified renewable energy projects in Japan.
  • Strong knowledge of Japanese regulatory and grid connection requirements.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and regulatory documents.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Japanese is highly desirable.
  • Relevant technical qualification in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or renewable energy preferred).
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote project locations across Japan.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • METI Electrical Engineer certification or equivalent.
  • Experience working with Japanese utilities and transmission operators.
