Role Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Estimator with expertise in wastewater and mechanical construction to lead the development of competitive, accurate, and strategic project estimates. This role involves managing the full estimating lifecycle, from initial bid preparation to final negotiations. The Senior Estimator will oversee a team of estimators and support staff, ensuring that all proposals align with project requirements and business objectives. Managing an annual portfolio of 25-50 estimates ranging from $5M to $100M, this position is integral to securing and executing successful projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee bid development, including pricing strategies, scheduling, and closeout.
- Analyze historical productivity data, labor and equipment costs, and subcontractor/vendor pricing to create precise unit price and man-hour estimates.
- Lead the preparation of conceptual budgets, cost analysis, and detailed bid proposals.
- Interpret project specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and define project scope.
- Facilitate scope meetings, value engineering discussions, and CPM schedule presentations with clients and construction managers.
- Drive formal presentations and final contract negotiations with key stakeholders.
- Manage estimating software and databases, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in bid preparation.
- Transition awarded bids into project phase codes and budget structures for seamless execution.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation to support estimate figures and track awarded contracts.
- Assist in pricing additional work items, change orders, and contract modifications.
- Support procurement teams in bid evaluations and negotiations.
- Mentor and train junior estimators to strengthen team capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering, or a combination of technical training and relevant industry experience.
- 10+ years of experience in estimating, cost control, or engineering, with at least 5 years focused on estimating within wastewater and mechanical construction.
- Strong knowledge of estimating methodologies across various project types.
- Proven ability to lead estimating teams and manage complex bid strategies.
- NYS Professional Engineering License preferred.
- Expertise in preparing high-value, detailed proposals with executive oversight.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
