We are seeking an experienced Civil Site Manager to support additional capacity on a major electricity transmission infrastructure project. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of site activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme and quality requirements.

This role operates within high-voltage substation environments and requires strong leadership, extensive National Grid experience, and excellent knowledge of safety, quality, and construction management processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day site operations, including site operatives and subcontractors

  • Plan, develop, and implement safety documentation, including:

    • Construction Phase Plans

    • Site Quality Plans

    • Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)

  • Prepare daily Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and allocate works accordingly

  • Produce and maintain Site Specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements

  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and daily briefings

  • Undertake regular site inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations

  • Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure timely delivery of works

  • Attend and contribute to weekly progress meetings

  • Resolve site issues, constraints, and conflicts as they arise

  • Ensure quality control measures are implemented throughout the project

  • Maintain accurate site records and documentation, including a detailed site diary covering labour and activities

  • Liaise effectively with stakeholders, including contractors, designers, and project teams


Essential Requirements

Candidates must hold the following:

  • National Grid NSI 6 & NSI 8 (Full)

  • SMSTS

  • First Aid at Work

  • SHEA Power / CSCS

  • Temporary Works Coordinator & Temporary Works Supervisor

  • Proven experience acting as Principal Contractor Site Manager (PCSM) on National Grid projects


Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of construction methodologies within the Electricity Transmission industry

  • Competency to work in substations ranging from 66kV to 400kV

  • Knowledge and experience working under NEC contracts

  • Strong understanding of current health, safety, and environmental legislation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage budgets and programme timescales effectively

  • Strong team-working skills across multi-disciplinary project teams

  • IT literacy, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Willingness to travel and work away at project sites as required

  • Relevant qualification in construction, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering

  • Previous or current National Grid TP 137.11 authorisation

  • Existing SSE authorisation (minimum CAT1C) advantageous
