Job Title: SHEQ AdvisorLocation: Islington / Silvertown (London) Contract Type: Rolling 6-Month Contract Engagement: Outside IR35 Working Pattern: 5 Days per Week On Site (subject to project requirements)OverviewWe are seeking an experienced SHEQ Advisor to support a major cable route and substation project in the Islington and Silvertown area. This is a site-based role requiring strong street works and utility infrastructure experience within complex urban environments.The successful candidate will provide proactive Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality support across cable installation and substation works, ensuring full regulatory compliance and high standards of operational performance.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide day-to-day SHEQ support across cable route and substation construction activities.Monitor and enforce compliance with HSE legislation, street works regulations, and project-specific requirements.Conduct site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.Review and approve RAMS, method statements, and permit-to-work documentation.Support safe delivery of street works, excavation, duct installation, cable pulling, reinstatement, and associated utility works.Ensure compliance with NRSWA requirements and traffic management controls.Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.Support environmental compliance including waste management, pollution prevention, and noise/dust control in urban settings.Liaise with project management, subcontractors, local authorities, and client representatives.Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, toolbox talks, and workforce coaching.Essential RequirementsMinimum 5+ years' experience in SHEQ roles within utilities, civil engineering, or heavy infrastructure projects.Proven experience in street works and cable route projects (essential).Experience supporting substation construction or utility infrastructure projects.Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations, NRSWA, and HSE legislation.Experience working in complex urban environments.NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent minimum).CSCS card (relevant level).Strong communication and contractor engagement skills.DesirableNRSWA Supervisor qualification.Experience working on DNO or major power infrastructure projects.ISO management systems exposure (9001 / 14001 / 45001).Engagement DetailsRolling 6-month contract with strong potential for extension.Outside IR35 engagement.Competitive day rate (open, dependent on experience).Site-based role - 5 days per week depending on programme requirements.ersg are an equal opportunities employer; we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all job applicants.
