The Most In-Demand Offshore Wind Jobs

As the world moves towards NetZero goals, the Renewable Energy industry is set to keep growing, and at the forefront of this transformation is the Offshore Wind Sector. By 2030, the offshore wind workforce in the UK could reach between 75,000 and 94,000 people by 2030, creating exciting opportunities for professionals at every stage of their careers, from seasoned experts to those just entering the industry.
Whether you’re looking for your next job in Offshore Wind, or curious about a new career, here’s everything you need to know about three of the top roles in the industry.

Wind Turbine Technician

The Role:

Wind Turbine Technicians play a hands-on role in maintaining and repairing onshore and offshore turbines to maximise uptime. Day-to-day, the role can include everything from inspecting and maintaining offshore turbines, to troubleshooting electrical or mechanical faults, to working on performance upgrades.

With half a million new wind technician roles expected by 2028, these hands-on positions are essential to support turbine installation, maintenance, and uptime in expanding offshore fleets.

Skills and Training:

The role requires technical proficiency in electrical and mechanical systems, GWO Basic Safety Training (First Aid, Fire Awareness, and Working at Heights), and strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Environmental Advisers & Planning Officers

The Role:

Environmental Advisers & Planning Officers play a crucial role in ensuring that offshore wind projects are both sustainable and compliant with regulations. The role involves conducting environmental impact assessments, preparing planning submissions for offshore projects, and collaborating with regulators and local stakeholders.

Skills and Training:

Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, analytical skills for assessments, and clear communication to work with stakeholders. Technical know-how and attention to detail ensure projects stay sustainable and compliant.

High-Voltage Electrical and Installation Specialists

The Role:

As offshore wind capacity increases, experts in high-voltage systems and offshore installations are vital for building infrastructure safely and efficiently. The role involves designing, installing, and maintaining HV cable systems, leading turbine installation phases, and ensuring all systems meet safety and regulatory standards.

Skills and Training:

High-Voltage & Installation Experts need strong technical skills in HV systems, testing and diagnostics, safety and compliance knowledge, relevant offshore certifications, and the ability to communicate and work effectively in teams.
