PRINCIPAL TRANSPORT PLANNER

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Membership of professional organisation
  • At least 7 years transport planning experience
  • Extensive Transport Planning experience, demonstrating practical and theoretical specialist knowledge
  • Experience in managing/training members of staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and delegate tasks
  • Experience of working with computer-based systems including Microsoft programmes
  • Ability to work on own initiative

Role Specific Requirements

  • Write, check and approve technical reports such as Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and Technical Notes.
  • Good understanding or modelling packages and methodologies to calculate trip generation and distributions
  • Support preparation of and approve technical drawings where appropriate
  • Experience in preparing appeal documentation including Statement of Case, Statement of Common Ground and Proof of Evidence
  • Attendance as expert witness at appeal hearings and/or public inquiries
  • Project manage schemes, including budget and time management
  • Client liaison and management
  • Assist with training and mentoring members of staff to support their career development
  • Attend, contribute and lead towards meetings as appropriate
  • Prepare, check and issue fee proposals and tenders
  • Engage in, and identify, Business Development opportunities including networking events
  • Develop and inform Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and team strategies
  • Line management responsibility including holding appraisals
  • Winning work for the team
  • Be adaptable to assist team members and cover project responsibilities while other colleagues are away
