Senior EC&I Design Engineer | Cumbria | 12 Months

We're currently looking for a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Design Engineer to join a growing team, supporting exciting projects within the nuclear sector.

What we're looking for:

  • Based in West Cumbria or able to relocate weekly

  • Qualification: HNC / HND / BEng (or similar) in Electrical Engineering

  • Strong skills in:

    • AutoCAD

    • Microsoft Office Suite

    • Trimble (Amtech)

  • Proven E,C&I Building Services experience in a nuclear environment

  • Confident in checking and reviewing design work

  • SC Clearance is highly desirable

Primary Design Engineer - HV SubstationsOverview:Lead the design delivery for high-voltage (up to 400kV) substation projects, ensuring alignment with National Grid requirements and industry standards. This position will create and implement safety policies, procedures, processes and plans to ensure a safe, healthy, and incident-free work site in a heavy construction, high compliance environment.To support all site operations with health, safety, and compliance to ensure that the planned work is delivered safely and on time, and to standard. Cable fitter- Jointer Installations

Your Role:Supervise and coordinate cable laying on-site in collaboration with trusted external partners, ensuring all work aligns with detailed installation plans.Act as the primary contact for auxiliary services (e.g. crane ops), performing quality checks and signing off on reworks as needed.Install high-voltage cable accessories post-lay, following exact installation drawings and procedures.Conduct full on-site functional testing including sheath testing, voltage systems checks, and troubleshooting.Lead final client handover procedures including documentation and acceptance reporting.Drive effective communication between customers and external teams to maintain high-quality delivery and site coordination.Your Profile:Completed vocational training (minimum 3 years) ideally in electrical or metal construction, or equivalent experience.Class B driver's license required; trailer license preferred.High willingness to travel for long periods (national and international projects, sometimes at short notice).Forklift and lifting platform licenses are a plus.Strong organizational skills with an independent, detail-oriented work ethic.Basic English and solid German language skills, plus proficiency in MS Office tools.
