SENIOR TRANSPORT PLANNER

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Membership of relevant professional organisation
  • At least 5 years transport planning experience
  • Knowledge and application of national, regional and local policy and design guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of working with computer-based systems including Microsoft programmes
  • Manage your own workload and delegate tasks
  • Provide high-level initial feedback without benefit of technical assessments
  • Ability to step in to assist projects you are not involved with; providing guidance, attending meetings, advising client

Role Specific Requirements

  • Write, check and on occasion approve technical reports such as Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans and Technical Notes
  • Prepare appeal documentation including Statement of Case and Statement of Common Ground
  • Successfully project manage schemes, including budget and time management and requesting additional fees where required
  • Excellent client / officer liaison and management
  • Assist with training junior members of staff
  • Ability to complete / review / approve planning drawing requirements, such as visibility splays, vehicle tracking diagrams, access designs etc with minimal changes
  • Independent attendance at Public Consultation events, project team/client meetings, appeal meetings & Local Highway Authority meetings
  • Prepare fee proposals and tenders for all project scales
  • Good understanding of junction modelling packages, and methodologies to calculate trip generation and distributions, including 'Decide and Provide'
  • Ability to identify and design mitigation schemes to overcome capacity, safety or active travel constraints
  • Complete access appraisals; including ability to design a variety of access options and provide high level feedback to clients
  • Be adaptable to assist team members and cover project responsibilities while other colleagues are away
  • Contribution/S106 obligation discussions
