Senior / Principal Highways Civil Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a number of skilled and motivated Highways Civil Engineers to join our clients infrastructure team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the planning, design, and delivery of major highways projects, with a particular emphasis on schemes for National Highways.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake detailed design of highways and associated infrastructure in accordance with DMRB and MCHW specifications.
- Manage and contribute to the development of feasibility studies, detailed design packages, and technical reports for National Highways schemes.
- Support project delivery through all RIBA stages, from concept to construction.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and contract documents using CAD (AutoCAD/Civil 3D) and other industry-standard software.
- Lead or support liaison with National Highways, local authorities, statutory bodies, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensure project documentation complies with CDM 2015 and other relevant UK legislation.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
- Monitor project budgets, programme schedules, and quality performance.
Essential Requirements
- BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng/IEng), or working towards this with a relevant professional institution (ICE or CIHT).
- Minimum 6 years' experience in the design and delivery of highways projects, with direct experience working on National Highways projects.
- Strong knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, CDM Regulations, and National Highways standards and procedures.
- Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX Road, and drainage design packages (e.g., MicroDrainage).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) and Design and Build contracts.
- Understanding of Road Safety Audits and Traffic Modelling inputs.
- BIM Level 2 compliance experience.
- Familiarity with project management tools and reporting.
