ersg are searching for a Substation Commissioning Engineer to join a major contractor in the Irish Power, Transmission & Distribution sectors. This role requires someone with experience in commissioning ESB substations, and you will be working across multiple projects across Ireland.The successful candidate will be responsible for;Verifying all primary and secondary substation plant/equipment is suitable for a Declaration of Fitness.Conduct all on-site HV commissioning tests on related plant.Verify communications systems (SCADA, RTU, automation systems) are operational.Lead commissioning on protection and control equipment.Review and ensure comprehensive documentation of all test records.Develop and nurture the update of commissioning procedures and standards.You will have demonstrable experience in the commissioning of ESB HV substations. Qualifications will include a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, ideally Power Engineering. HV Substation Design Approval Engineer (Contract)ResponsibilitiesAct as the technical authority for reviewing and approving high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substation design packages.Ensure primary electrical designs comply with applicable transmission standards, project specifications, and engineering best practice.Review, verify, and approve engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports, and design documentation before submission.Lead the delivery of primary plant designs for AIS, GIS, and HV substations throughout the project lifecycle.Produce and review general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, section drawings, and associated technical documentation.Manage design revisions, assess engineering changes, and ensure all modifications are accurately documented and technically justified.Review vendor documentation and confirm selected equipment is suitable for the intended application.Participate in technical design reviews, constructability workshops, and engineering risk assessments.Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including Protection & Control, Civil, Overhead Line, and Cable engineers to ensure coordinated project delivery.Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers within the design team.Support engineering assurance activities by responding to technical queries and resolving review comments within agreed timescales.Promote quality, safety, and compliance throughout all stages of the engineering process.Ensure engineering solutions align with current UK transmission standards and industry regulations.RequirementsDegree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.Significant experience delivering HV/EHV substation primary design projects within the UK transmission sector.Previous experience in a Lead Design Engineer, Design Approval, or Technical Authority position.Strong understanding of transmission substation engineering principles, including AIS and GIS substations.Experience reviewing and approving engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.Knowledge of UK transmission network standards and utility engineering requirements.Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams across complex infrastructure projects.Familiarity with engineering change management and formal design review processes.Working knowledge of relevant UK Health & Safety legislation and safe-by-design principles.Experience using CAD software, with exposure to 3D modelling or BIM tools considered advantageous.Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage internal engineering teams, contractors, and project stakeholders.Able to work independently while providing technical leadership on major transmission projects.ersg are an equal opportunities employer; we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all job applicants. Senior Electrical Engineer - DistributionAbout the OpportunityAn established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its growing Distribution team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of electrical infrastructure projects across the utilities, industrial, renewable energy, and commercial sectors.The successful candidate will be involved in the design and delivery of medium and low voltage electrical networks, supporting projects from initial concept through to detailed design and implementation.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems in accordance with UK utility standards.Develop network solutions including radial, ring main and open/closed ring configurations.Produce layouts for distribution substations, electrical plant and associated equipment.Prepare primary electrical designs for MV and LV infrastructure.Develop protection and control schemes, including wiring diagrams and equipment interfaces.Complete cable sizing calculations and produce routing, termination and installation drawings.Carry out earthing system design and modelling, including touch, step and transfer potential assessments.Design auxiliary electrical systems, standby power arrangements, SCADA interfaces and metering solutions.Produce technical specifications and assist with equipment selection and procurement activities.Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors and project stakeholders.Support electrical network studies, validation activities and system performance assessments.Consider arc flash hazards and incorporate suitable mitigation measures into designs.Review technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and engineering standards.Participate in internal design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement within the engineering team.RequirementsDegree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.Experience delivering MV and LV electrical design projects within the power or utilities sector.Knowledge of UK electrical engineering standards and utility network design practices.Understanding of power system fundamentals and electrical distribution principles.Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.Ability to work effectively with internal teams, clients and external suppliers.Desirable ExperienceExperience working within structured engineering design assurance processes.Knowledge of CDM regulations, design risk management and pre-construction documentation.MV and HV cable system design.Protection and Control engineering.Protection coordination, grading studies and fault level assessments.Experience supporting electrical infrastructure, transmission or distribution projects.ersg are an equal opportunities employer; we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all job applicants.
