Senior Quantity Surveyor - Freelance

We're looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major project on a freelance basis, taking ownership of the commercial and contractual management of the project from procurement through to completion.

This is a hands-on commercial role suited to an SQS who is confident managing subcontractors, upstream contracts, variations, cost control, forecasting and commercial risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial and contractual management across allocated projects.
  • Manage upstream contracts, notices, variations and commercial compliance.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts and cost reports.
  • Procure, negotiate and manage subcontract packages.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, variations, payments and final accounts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly applications and supporting commercial documentation.
  • Maintain variation, liability, risk and opportunity registers.
  • Identify and mitigate commercial risks while maximising opportunities.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers and delivery teams.
  • Support commercial audits, governance and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on major construction or engineering projects.
  • Strong subcontract management and upstream contract administration experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of variations, valuations, payment applications, forecasting and cost control.
  • Strong contractual and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced project environment.

Highly advantageous:

  • M&E / Mechanical & Electrical experience
  • Pharmaceutical / Life Sciences project experience
  • Experience working on complex, high-value engineering or construction projects.
