ersg are searching for a Substation Commissioning Engineer to join a major contractor in the Irish Power, Transmission & Distribution sectors. This role requires someone with experience in commissioning ESB substations, and you will be working across multiple projects across Ireland.

The successful candidate will be responsible for;

  • Verifying all primary and secondary substation plant/equipment is suitable for a Declaration of Fitness.
  • Conduct all on-site HV commissioning tests on related plant.
  • Verify communications systems (SCADA, RTU, automation systems) are operational.
  • Lead commissioning on protection and control equipment.
  • Review and ensure comprehensive documentation of all test records.
  • Develop and nurture the update of commissioning procedures and standards.

You will have demonstrable experience in the commissioning of ESB HV substations. Qualifications will include a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, ideally Power Engineering. You must have a full, clean driving license and be able to prove your eligibility to work in Ireland.

Site Supervisor - Cable Installation (HVDC Converter Station Project)About the OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Site Supervisor - Cable Installation to support the delivery of a major energy infrastructure project in Germany. The role involves overseeing cable installation activities within a large-scale converter station environment that forms part of a critical power transmission development connecting renewable energy sources to the national grid.This position is primarily site-based in the greater Würzburg region, with occasional travel to other project locations in Germany as required. Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor and supervise cable installation activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements.Ensure strict adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations by all contractors and subcontractors on site.Review technical documentation, installation procedures, method statements, and construction drawings prior to execution.Verify the quality of workmanship and ensure cable installation activities are performed according to approved standards and best practices.Conduct regular site inspections and monitor construction progress against project schedules.Support and coordinate inspections, testing activities, and commissioning preparations.Identify, document, and follow up on non-conformities, defects, and corrective actions.Assess contractor resource deployment and provide feedback regarding construction performance.Coordinate with project management, engineering teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical and construction-related issues.Prepare site reports and provide regular updates on progress, quality, safety, and risks.
