ERSG places marine personnel across installation vessels, cable-lay ships, jack-ups and survey vessels - as well as subsea engineering specialists including ROV pilots, divers and geotechnical surveyors - supporting offshore wind, oil and gas and marine infrastructure clients.
Offshore wind generates substantial marine employment. Key roles include offshore installation managers (OIMs), marine warranty surveyors (MWS), load-out supervisors, ballast control operators, crane operators, marine coordinators, cable-lay engineers, survey technicians and vessel masters and officers. During offshore O&M phases, specialist service operation vessels (SOVs and CSOVs) require crew and technical staff for ongoing turbine maintenance access.
Vessel officers require relevant STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) certificates including Officer of the Watch (OOW), Chief Mate or Master. ROV pilots typically hold IMCA-compliant training and competency certificates. Marine surveyors may hold IMarEST or RIN qualifications. All offshore personnel require GWO or OPITO basic safety training at a minimum, with additional medical certificates (ENG1 or equivalent) for seagoing roles.
An offshore installation manager (OIM) is the senior person in charge of an offshore installation operation - typically overseeing a vessel or fixed platform conducting turbine installation, foundation installation or cable-lay work. The OIM is responsible for personnel safety, operational decision-making and emergency response. The role requires extensive offshore experience, strong leadership capability and often specific certification or endorsement from the vessel operator.
Subsea engineering recruitment covers professionals working below the water surface - ROV (remotely operated vehicle) pilots and supervisors, saturation and air divers, subsea engineers for pipeline and cable work, survey engineers and geotechnical specialists. ERSG places subsea professionals for offshore wind cable installation and inspection, oil and gas subsea infrastructure and marine construction projects where subsea survey or intervention is required.
Marine officer salaries vary by rank and vessel type. Officers of the Watch typically earn £50,000–£70,000 on a rota basis. Chief Officers and Masters typically earn £80,000–£120,000. OIM day rates for offshore wind installation can range from £600–£1,000 per day depending on the installation type and client. Subsea ROV supervisor day rates typically range from £400–£700 per day.
A marine warranty surveyor (MWS) is an independent specialist who certifies that offshore marine operations - such as heavy lifts, tow and installation, or load-out of large offshore structures - comply with the applicable marine standards and insurer requirements. MWSs are engaged by underwriters and project owners on major offshore operations.
